Much Ado About Plaid

Check(ered)mate!

It doesn’t have to be flannel or wool, but it sure needs to be tartan- Gaelic-Scottish patterned cloth meaning colo(u)rs. This classic print that started in sashes and kilts in Scotland has become a modern staple in outfits everywhere. Did you know that there is an actual Scottish Tartan Authority that monitors plaid?!

Truly, Plaidly, Deeply

Plaid is all the rage and this checkered trend is staying around for a while. I love my Banana Republic Sloan fitted plaid pants, and they go well with a classic top such as a turtleneck, or a silky, satin blouse. It doesn’t have to be preppy (sorry, Cher Horowitz from Clueless), you can sport your plaid with a cotton printed top or plaid, knit leggings. And, no, you don’t need to wear your plaid, Burberry rain boots, even though the plastic boot trend is also back. Trust me, there are so many modern ways to incorporate plaid with more than just a flannel button down.

Here are a few of my favorite plaid picks!
